Carrying the Torch for our Local Children

National Torch Relay sponsored by Marriott comes to Jacksonville on November 5

JACKSONVILLE, FL, October 17, 2006–We are ready to go again! Walk, run, or ride your bike in the 2006 Torch Relay!

Join the Children's Miracle Network and Marriott at the starting line for a relay experience known nation-wide with local impact! In 2006, the torch relay is traveling coast to coast, with new cities on the route and traveling over 5,800 miles in 21 days to raise $1 million dollars. The relay course begins at the Marriott headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland and ends in Hollywood, California. The entire relay runs from October 30 – November 19, with the lit torch passing through Jacksonville on Sunday, November 5.

The relay will begin at the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott at Jacksonville Beach at 7:30a.m. It is broken down into three different segments. There will be a 4.5 mile walk and a 3.5 mile run that ends at the Sawgrass Marriott. From Sawgrass Marriott it will be a 57 mile performance bike ride to Daytona.

There is a $25 participation fee, but the majority of the funds raised are through pledges. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $25, with hopes that they will exceed that goal. All funds raised locally benefit Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital.

Children’s Miracle Network is dedicated to improving the health and welfare of all children by raising funds and awareness for the pediatric programs at Shands Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital. The founding principle of Children’s Miracle Network is that all funds raised stay locally to improve the health care for children in the community.
