KayaName: Kaya Getz
Age: 2 years

Diagnosis: Narrow Esophagus, Blocked Intestines and Blood Poisoning

Kaya’s parents say they fell in love with her the moment they received her picture from an adoption agency. Chris and Tanya Getz crossed an ocean and traveled thousands of miles to adopt Kaya who was orphaned in China. When they brought Kaya back to their hotel room, they knew something was wrong.

Kaya wasn’t able to keep any food down. She was dangerously thin and had no energy. Chris and Tanya fought for two weeks to get their daughter the treatment she needed in China, but weren’t able to find help.

Once the new family was back in Jacksonville, Chris and Tanya immediately took Kaya to Wolfson Children’s Hospital. Doctors told them three small seeds were blocking an
unusually narrow section of her esophagus. Her intestines were also reversed, causing more blockage. Because she was so malnourished, Kaya had also developed a blood infection.
She was put on a respirator and stayed in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Wolfson Children’s Hospital for the next seven weeks. Thanks to the expertise and equipment at Wolfson Children’s Hospital, Kaya eventually recovered.

Doctors say Kaya’s future is bright now that she has fully recovered. Chris and Tanya Getz say God has a plan for their miracle child and they are grateful for the opportunity to watch her grow up.
