Diagnosis: Long QT Syndrome

     Emily has a rare form of Long QT Syndrome, a cardiac conduction defect which causes her heart to beat in life-threatening tachycardia. She has a pacemaker / defibrillator implanted. She received her first defibrillator at Wolfson Children’s Hospital when she was 4 years old.

     Since then she has had many hospitalizations at WCH throughout the past 8 years for surgeries and restabilization. Emily has most recently spent time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for an extended period and has had multiple Life-Flights this year.
      Emily is doing well since her last discharge, but is on a regimen of multiple medications as well as her pacemaker. She requires medication every six hours around the clock. Emily must also have someone with her or close by at all times to recognize symptoms of distress.
      Emily has two older sisters, Alison and Margaret. She loves her nephew, Thomas, who is almost two years old. She also loves art, including drawing and painting as well as
writing in her journal. She has a Collie dog, Lady.
