Diagnosis: Severe Brain and Internal Injuries

     Devon was riding in the car with her younger sister, Shelby and her mom, Samantha when their car was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck. Her mom and sister were killed in the horrible crash. Trauma One quickly flew Devon to the Trauma Center at Shands Jacksonville.
      She was suffering from severe brain injuries, major organ damage, burns and broken bones. Doctors quickly operated to place two shunts in Devon’s head. They also put metal rods in her back to fuse her spine and attached an external fixator to her broken leg. Doctors also performed a skin graft to heal a burn on her leg.
      With time and intensive physical therapy, Devon was able to walk again and has recovered from the horrible accident she says her faith and the spirits of her mom and sister are what allowed her to get through her terrible experience. Devon
regularly participates in Children’s Miracle Network events such as Festival of Lights and joined up with hundreds of local bikers when she rode along in the first ever Golden Isles Miracle Ride.
