Miracle Stories
Name: Alexander Fast
Age: 7-years-old
Diagnosis: Liver Transplant
Alex is a charismatic 7-year-old with a love for The History Channel. He has a gorgeous smile and enjoys showing off his growing teeth. He is special in many ways, but his bravery stands apart from many others.
Alex was two years old when the doctors learned about his auto immune disease that caused his liver to become enlarged. Bile that normally washes out of a person’s liver was getting stuck in Alex’s, therefore causing his liver to erode. Alex could no longer survive on his liver and he needed to have a liver transplant.
In January of 2005 Alex underwent surgery for the first time. He was knocked out for several days while his body tried to adapt to the new liver. The surgery was successful, however complications arose and Alex was back in the hospital for two additional surgeries.
Alex has spent a lot of time in three different hospitals and he will be the first to tell you that Wolfson Children’s Hospital is his favorite. At Wolfson Children’s Hospital Alex received baseball cards, participated in arts and crafts and took part in many other fun activities.
Alex is doing very well, however he still can not participate in a lot of normal activities. Alex will receive further treatment to ensure his liver does not reject.
